AMHR/ASPC offers many awards for the entire youth of the registry. You can find out more about the opportunities available to the youth at www.aspcamhryouth.com ASPC/AMHR Scholarships - Sponsored by ASPC/AMHR/ASPR Youth Committee Award Description: Possible two scholarships awarded each year - one ASPC and one AMHR. Applications must be current member or past youth member with a current adult membership (must be in Jr. High or Older and not to exceed 21 years of age). Former Youth member must be currently enrolled in higher education and a current adult member of ASPC. May only win each scholarship once, and only one in a current year. The scholarship, in the amount of $1500, is to be used to continue education. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, or any other educational expense. Members of the Youth Committee and/or outside judges will review the applications and choose the winners. Priority will be given to those planning to pursue education in an equine related field. Spelling, grammar, neatness and actual content of the essay will be factors in the selection process. Before the Scholarship recipient receives their scholarship money, these funds will be paid direct to theschool upon receipt of verification from the school and the form mailed to them by Awards Chair. Scholarship recipients will be contacted by the awards Chair and the official presentation will be at the banquet atthe National Convention. How to Apply: Submit a completed Application Form, an Essay and the Awards Cover sheet to the Youth Awards Chair. Essay should discuss your involvement with the ASPC/AMHR and how this involvement and your love of Shetlands/Miniatures have impacted your life. Also include how you plan to stay involved in the equine industry. Three character references will need to be provided along with the completed application form and essay. Audrey Barrett Classic Shetland Youth Award - Sponsored by the ASPC/AMHR Youth Committee This Award was started by the late Audrey Barrett, of Arenosa Pony Farm to recognize youth who show a registered Classic Shetland at officially rated shows. Youth must show a registered Classic Shetland Pony at Officially rated shows to qualify. There is a possible 16 awards presented each year - one in each of two ages groups in each of the eight Areas. Age groups are 12 & under & 13 to 17. The National Directors in each area will review the biographies and choose the winners. Winners will be contacted by the Awards Chair and there will be an award presented at the National Convention during the Saturday Morning Hall of Fame Breakfast. How to Apply: Submit a brief biography using the Biography Application form. The application form should be completed in its entirety and all required information included or application will be considered null and void. postmarked by June 1 of current year. Daniel Langfeld, Jr. Award - Sponsored by the ASPC/AMHR/ASPR Youth Committee Award Description: This award was started by Dan Langfeld, Jr., of Danby Farm to recognize the youth who show the most involvement whether in the show ring or promoting Shetlands and/or Miniatures. There are a possible eight awards to be presented each year - one in each of the eight Areas. The national Directors will review the biographies and choose the winners. The winners will be notified by the Awards Chair with the application for a $50 savings bond and there will an award presented at the National Convention during the Saturday Morning Hall of Fame Breakfast. How to Apply: Submit a brief biography using the Biography Application form. The application form should be completed in its entirety and all required information included or application will be considered null and void. The fourth item due on June 1, 2010 is the T-shirt Design contest. This is to showcase the talent of the youth of our organization. Think how proud your parents, grandparents, or you yourself will be if your design is chosen. Maybe some of our clubs could encourage the youth at their local meetings to get together and do this together. Take time to fill in applications and for the new family that thinks they may not have a chance the local clubs could be the place that you will find that everyone has a fair chance at winning. T-Shirt Design Contest - Sponsored by the ASPC/AMHR/ASPR Youth Committee Award Description: Youth members may enter a design contest to create the design that is used on the Team T-Shirts at the ASPC Congress and AMHR Nationals. The committee reserves the right to choose one for Congress and one for Nationals, this may or may not be the same design. The purpose of this contest is to draw from the creativity of our youth and provide them the opportunity to share their talents. The competition is open to all youth. The winner(s) will receive a $50 cash prize along with a t-shirt showing the design and a commemoration of your design. The design will be used on the current year team shirts. The winner(s) will receive their award(s) at Congress or National, if they are unable to attend either National Show or unable to attend Convention, their awards will be mailed to them. How to Apply: Submit your drawing on an 8 1/2” x 11” papers and Youth Awards Cover Sheet.
